Lord MacGinnis, here in your home, she responded quietly, trying to cover her shock.
Lucas stepped forward and clasped her hands tenderly as he bent to kiss her
knuckles seductively. Elizabeth tried to deny the riot of sensations that assaulted and
aroused her. She could feel his touch to the very bottom of her toes. Her body shuddered
as she gazed up into his eyes, feeling his emotions as he stared back intently. They
shared an invisible link that neither of them could possibly deny. He had to be feeling the
same strong and overpowering sensations she was.
I am pleased to see ye again, lass. My full name is Duncan Lucas Marston
MacGinnis, he murmured, as he straightened to his full height. Elizabeth could see from
the corner of her eye that her aunt had a perplexed expression upon her face.
Did I hear ye call him Lucas, lass? she asked. How did ye know twas his
middle name, lass? she persisted.
I told you, Aunt Ann, we met briefly in London, didn t we, my lord? she said
haltingly, as she faced him fully and smiled. His returning smile almost did her in, so
devastating was it in its intensity.
Then I ll leave the two of ye to visit, her aunt said, as she excused herself and
turned to leave the room. I shall be just in the other room doing some needlepoint,
should ye need me for anything. Once she had disappeared around the corner, Lucas
moved closer still.
Och, lass, I ve missed ye so, he purred, as he leaned towards her still holding
her hand in his and drawing it to his chest. She attempted to free her hand, but he held it
firmly.
Her confusion must have been evident, for his face had a tender expression, his
eyes clear and determined as he pinned her with his gaze. We have much to talk about,
you and I, lass. He led her by the hand to one of the chairs by the blazing fire and
waited for her to be seated.
Sitting, she folded her hands in her lap and looked up, waiting for him to begin.
She was very curious to hear what he had to say, for she was thoroughly undone by the
events of the entire last week. Since she had met him her world had been turned
completely upside down. And just when she thought she had to continue without him, he
returned to complicate her life even further.
Sitting next to her, he drew in a ragged breath and stared directly into her eyes.
What I am about to tell ye, lass, is the truth. First, I feel I must apologize for what
HANDSOME DEVIL Donna McAteer 91
occurred at my mansion. I had no knowledge of your virtue, lass. I was tricked into
thinking ye were a young woman gone astray, by the conniving blonde. And was further
confused by your agreement to give me whatever I wanted for information about your
brother. I really didn t need any excuses to take you along with me to my home. You
gave me all the excuse I needed; only I felt as though I betrayed you, having not given
you all the information sooner.
At this point, Elizabeth had opened her mouth to protest, but he held up a hand to
silence her.
Please, allow me to finish first, lass. Then if ye wish to slap my face, feel free.
Second, I am no just a rake in London out to rid every woman of her maidenhead, lass.
The bluntness of his statement caused Elizabeth to blush, and she averted her eyes
momentarily at the realization that she had indeed thought that of him at first.
I have a great love of the female gender, Elizabeth, nothing more. I have never
purposely rid any woman of her virtue; ye must believe that, Elizabeth! I found it so easy
to believe the blonde because I wanted to meet ye so badly.
Elizabeth s eyes widened at his admittance to wanting to meet her. She had been
as equally surprised to come face to face with him in the library. For not only was he the
man she needed to approach about vital information about Aidan, he had been the only
man in the room to make her heart race.
I, like ye, have been looking for a marriage partner. It s about time I marry, the
clan needs it, and I need it! An earnest expression creased his brow as his eyes lit up.
I don t blame you. For even though I tried to explain to you that I was an
innocent, I had also made an agreement with you to give you whatever you wanted in
exchange for any word on Aidan.
I should have listened to ye, lass, he confided quietly. And after we made
love, I thought ye hated me and never wanted to see me again. So, I let ye go, as badly as
I wanted to keep ye by my side, I let ye go, lass.
She could feel tears beginning to well in her eyes, so mixed were her emotions. [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
